Why do you play rugby?
I play rugby for a number of reasons. First and foremost it’s a jolly good laugh – sunshine, rain wind or snow doesn’t matter. Going out onto the field with your mates every Saturday afternoon is superb fun. Secondly I use it as a vent: any stress, frustration or anger I’ve built up during the week is expelled when I play rugby - I know for 80 mins every week all that is forgotten. And lastly but certainly not least, the comradery and social aspect is second to none.
Life outside East Grinstead RFC
Outside of East Grinstead RFC, I’m still very active: regular gym goer, squash player and wannabe triathlete. Have competed internationally at Modern Pentathlon and Tetrathlon many years ago too. Like many of my team mates, I work in the competitive world of recruitment.
Who’s your favourite player and why?
Danny Care. As a Harlequins fan obviously I’m biased but there’s not many men out there that can change a game in such a dramatic way. He’s very much an attacking and dynamic scrum half always looking for an opportunity to go forward and challenge the men in front of him. Pain in the arse to defend, love it.

What’s your favourite rugby moment?
Has to be the legendary Wilkinson drop goal to beat Australia win the World Cup 03. Bit cliché I know but that clip will always be a goosebumps moment for me. I was 11 when that happened and it made a big impact in my love for the game.

What’s your advice to younger East Grinstead RFC players coming through?
Enjoy it, win lose or draw. We’re here to have fun. Listen to your coaches and watch as much high level rugby as possible!
What is the best thing about East Grinstead RFC?
It’s a family. We’re one of the only clubs in Sussex that regularly puts out 3 men’s teams and a women’s side. That’s a lot of people; so no matter the skillset or level of experience there’s a place for you here at East Grinstead RFC.
