SENIOR RUGBY
A great Saturday for our 2XV as they beat a strong Worthing 3’s away in the cup, 32 - 46. Try’s for old hands, Tim and Ali, were added to by Sam, a brace for Rhys and a speedy hat trick from Ben Green on the wing, earned him a MOM performance. The reward for this win is a trip to Jersey in the next round on the 15th November!
Next weekend is a busy one for our senior squads as league rugby begins in earnest! Our 1XV travel to Seaford on Saturday, while our 2’s host Horsham as our men start a busy and crucial month of rugby. On Sunday our Women host Seaford in what is always a fruity encounter.
Let’s pack the touchlines (and The Steve Cairns Clubhouse) for our two home games across the weekend.
INTERMEDIATE RUGBY
Last weekend, Sunday 21st, the Under 12's played their first matches of the season, a friendly fixture away at Haywards Heath, in preparation for their first season in the Sussex Waterfall Leagues. A big day for the whole squad, arriving for the first time proudly sporting their new club ties!
The Blue Team really got out of the blocks quickly, playing some superb rugby and looking really well drilled as a team, finishing with a resounding 12 tries to nil victory, including hat tricks from Iestyn and Jonah.
Our Red Team put in a fantastic effort, with newer players Oscar and Antonio in particular making some very strong breaks and Henry making some try saving tackles in defence. Going in at half time 2 tries all, the game finished 4 - 3 to Haywards Heath but the whole team can be proud of their performance.
Coach Tom Brooke said:
'This was a brilliant way to kick off our season and see some of the work we've already been doing in training start to come to life. The whole squad were a credit to the club throughout the day. We'll continue to work hard in training and can be really confident going into our first league fixtures on 5th October'.
MEET A RED ROSE THIS SUNDAY
In case you missed it, we are hugely excited to tell you that a World Cup Winning Red Rose is joining us at Saint Hill on Sunday to help with our Girls Rugby Fest.
Jess Breach (The Jess Express) started every game in England’s victorious cup run, the speedy winger scoring six trys across the tournament. Come and join her, accompanied by former Red Roses, Kathy Garson and Jenny Lyne. Why not book your daughter in to our Girls Rugby Fest to join in the fun or just get to the club and grab a selfie or two??

MICK LINDFIELD
We also announced the passing of Mick. We had this lovely tribute (and picture) from Roy:
“I am so sad to hear of the death of Mick Lindfield. Not only did I go to school with him but he was an integral part of the Club during my playing days. I met him at the club only a short time ago and he was his usual pleasant self.
I attach a photo of some of the players of my day with Mick second from the right in the back row. Sadly those with really long memories will recognise other members who have also passed from us . All great characters! I miss them now, even after 65 years
Rugby does that to you!
Spanning MIck on the back row are John Voller, and Jack Litchfield. From the left on the front row, 1: Johnny Perrins, 3. John Summers, 4 Ian Peskett, 7 Tony (Pom) Marshall.
I also played cricket with Johnny and Jack for Ashurst Wood. Pom turned out once (How's that ref.?) He was not asked again!!
Regards
Roy Windibank”
