As the East Grinstead hopeful came into this one, knowing it would be a tough day at the office against a Twickenham side pushing for promotion, the game started and EG came out playing the brighter of the rugby, putting phase after phase together going through what had been practiced on the training paddock, all that was lacked was that finishing edge.
As the game settled Twickenham’s strong first phase off the set piece was evident as they worked hard up the middle to break the EG defence, however, EG scrambled particularly well and were in the fight throughout. The class eventually came through from Twickenham where they found the spaces to score a try out wide after good hands, followed by a strong set piece move directly up the middle where the centre went untouched.
As captain, Chris MM rallied the troops, a tough chat before the coaches could get in changed the mindset of the boys, EG battled and scored two excellently worked try’s through Jake Radcliffe and Luke Maker. The scrum for EG functioned well once again showing an area of dominance throughout.
Unfortunately on the day the match ended Twickenham 47 - East Grinstead 10. Twickenham deserved the win and I’m certain a side heavily backed for promotion.
Next week both the 1’s and 2’s have a week off, with some important fixtures to come!
